Happy Birthday Gursky!

The German photographer, who defined the Dusseldorf School and pushed the medium into new dimensions celebrates his 58th birthday on January 15th. Gursky's large scale photographs are akin to the Courbet gesture of our time, challenging convention by rendering the works on scale previously reserved for other art forms (painting).
The pioneering size of his photographs is a technical feat and still a rarity. In fact, the only place to create Gursky-scale photographs remains in Dusseldorf!
