Painterly Photography

A young generation of artists are finding new uses for traditional photographic paper and subverting the chemical processes into extraordinary hybrids of painterly abstraction and photographic source.  Whether over-painting motifs like Sarah Anne Johnson or exposing the emulsive paper to the natural elements for unpredictable results like Ryan Forseter and Matthew Brant, these artists all question the fundamental nature of the medium and enable photography to be a unique object.
