NEW YORK, April 10, 2014 – One Art Space in collaboration with Beers Contemporary Gallery – London is pleased to announce “Variations on a Theme” a solo exhibition of London based Canadian artist Andrew Salgado. This exhibition will be on view from May 24 – July 6, 2014. A reception will be held at the gallery on May 23 from 6-9 pm.

Variations on a Theme” follows Andrew Salgado’s last five sell-out exhibitions:

–      January, 2014 ‘Enjoy the Silence’ Christopher Møller Fine Art, Cape Town, South Africa

–      October, 2013 ‘ The Acquaintance’ Art Gallery of Regina, Regina, Canada

–      May, 2013 ‘The Smallest Heart’s Desire’ La Petite Mort Gallery, Ottawa, Canada

–      March, 2013 ‘Harvey Nichols Commission’ Beers Contemporary, London, UK

–      October, 2012 ‘The Misanthrope’ Beers Contemporary, London, UK

Andrew Salgado has created a buzz for himself with bold, generally large scale figurative paintings that have situated him as one to watch in both the UK and North America; even being listed by Saatchi as “one of 12 to invest in today” (Sept 2013) and lauded by esteemed critic Edward Lucie Smith as a “dazzlingly skillful advocate” for painting. Salgado is one of 100 artists to be featured in the forthcoming publication 100 Painters of Tomorrow, authored by Kurt Beers and published by Thames & Hudson, (2014), and he is recipient of the Saskatchewan Lieutenant Governor’s Arts Award (2013).

Salgado has exhibited in the United Kingdom, Germany, Scandinavia, Australia, Venezuela, Thailand, Korea, South Africa, Canada, and the USA.

His paintings have hung in the Saatchi gallery (2014); alongside works by Tracy Emin and Gary Hume in London’s Courtauld Institute of the Arts (2012); included in the Merida Biennale of Contemporary Art (2010), the NordArt Carlshutte Biennale (2012); and has been featured Maclean’s (Canada), The Globe and Mail (Canada), The Independent, The Evening Standard, Saatchi Online, Shortlist, Yatzer, The Ottawa Citizen, The Metro (UK) and more. He frequently donates to charitable associations worldwide, including the Terrence Higgins Trust, MacMillan Cancer Support, and many others, and garnered the highest-bid ever auctioned at Canada’s esteemed Friends For Life 18th Annual Charity Auction (2011). In 2011 he was featured in the Channel 4 (UK) documentary What Makes a Masterpiece, alongside artists Anish Kappor, Howard Hodgkins, and Bridget Riley (2011). In 2013 he was commissioned to create a brand new series of large-scale works to adorn the windows of the luxurious UK-retailer, Harvey Nichols.

Salgado has lived and worked in London, UK since 2008

An exhibition catalog will be available by May 23, 2014 on the artist and his body of work.
