Segue
The meaning of the word 'Segue' is to make a transition from one thing to another, without interruption. Bence Bakonyi’s travel documentary focused on the environment, refrained from picturing humans. In this way the journey has no interruption.
Bence Bakonyi produced this documentary photoseries in China throughout a one year journey. The thematic order of the photo series guides us from the bare and rubbishy rural area to the crowdy, impersonal city. The artist was looking for the place where he could find himself. These photographs can be seen as self-portrait of the artist as the image of the human life. During the seeking of subsistence the environment becomes empty and impersonal, as we couldn’t see any people on the photographs. At the same time order and disorder, emptiness and crowdedness, aim and aimlessness could be experienced on the pictures as in everyday life.
