The seventh annual edition of FOG Design+Art will take place January 16–19, 2020 at Fort Mason Center for Arts and Culture in San Francisco. The fair will open with a Preview Gala on Wednesday, January 15 to benefit the education and exhibitions programs of the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SFMOMA). Penny and Jim Coulter will serve as honorary co-chairs for this year’s fair. Philanthropists with a deep interest in art and education, the Coulters have been supporters of FOG since the fair’s inception.

The 2020 fair will feature six new galleries participating for the first time – Gallery Fumi (London), Jenkins Johnson Gallery (San Francisco), Lehmann Maupin (New York), Mercado Moderno (Rio de Janeiro), Nathalie Karg Gallery (New York), and Tina Kim Gallery (New York) – with 48 galleries participating in total. FOG will also feature a series of conversations and panel discussions with notable figures working in art, design, and technology, which will take place in the FOG Theater throughout the duration of the fair. All programs are included with admission. In addition, FOG’s iconic installation 21POP by Stanlee Gatti, which artfully celebrates makers, will return to the fair’s entryway this year.

The FOG 2020 Innovators Luncheon will honor Brian Chesky, co-founder, CEO and Head of Community at AirBnB. Showing an early interest in art and drawing, Chesky earned a BFA in Industrial Design from the Rhode Island School of Design. After moving to San Francisco in 2007, Chesky co-created Airbnb, the world’s largest online marketplace for unique travel and living experiences, driven by local hosts.

“FOG is the anchor point of the San Francisco arts week, and celebrates the cultural vitality and vibrancy of our city,” said Sonya Yu, who joined the FOG Steering Committee this year. “With the 2020 edition of FOG, we will be returning to the fair’s roots, and presenting a smaller, more tightly curated selection of galleries. The fair has continued to grow each year, and for 2020 we are eager to celebrate its boutique nature, and to provide larger spaces for our exhibitors to present their works. The galleries selected reflect the ethos and vision of FOG, and represent some of the best presentations of art and design happening around the world.”

FOG’s mission is to create a dialogue about the relationship between art and design, and to provide a platform for the Bay Area community, as well as an international host of curators, collectors, and art world enthusiasts, to experience works of contemporary art and design by some of the most celebrated dealers of 20th-century and contemporary work.

Building on FOG’s longstanding commitment to SFMOMA, the Preview Gala, Innovators Luncheon, and ArtBites events support SFMOMA’s exhibitions and education programs, while FOG Forum specifically raises funds for the museum’s Architecture and Design department. Each year, FOG represents a key moment in which the local and global community congregate to engage in critical dialogue, artistic exchanges and a shared passion for creative pursuits.
