Theresa Bloise: Artist Statement
GRIN
I make metaphysical paintings and drawings of human discards and ephemera. I find my visual material anywhere and everywhere; from scraps of glass and plastic on the sidewalk; chunks of concrete and rebar from an urban ruin, to space junk floating out around the earth. I sketch out ideas by collaging photos of these images; in Photoshop, on paper by hand, and by improvising as I draw or paint. Some objects are lovingly rendered while others are described mechanically as silhouettes; all contextual information is removed. The resulting images could be read as both still life and landscape: microscopic and monumental, primordial and apocalyptic.
