Harn Museum Exhibition Features Art by University of Florida Faculty
The Harn Museum of Art at the University of Florida is featuring art by UF’s School of Art + Art History (SA+AH) art studio faculty in a an exhibition titled Solo/Together: 50th Annual UF Art Faculty Exhibition. Twenty-three artists working in a wide range of media including painting, ceramics, mixed-media and video will display recently created works — some on view for the first time. This is the 50th year of holding the exhibition on UF’s campus. Solo/Together: 50th Annual UF Art Faculty Exhibition will be on view from Sept. 16, 2014 to Jan. 14, 2015.
The artists represented in the exhibition include: Linda Arbuckle, Anthea Behm, Amy Freeman, Katerie Gladdys, Richard Heipp, Anna Calluori Holcombe, Lisa Iglesias, Ron Janowich, Sean Miller, Julia Morrisroe, Robert Mueller, Derek Reeverts, Celeste Roberge, Brad Smith, Craig Smith, Nan Smith, Jack Stenner, Rotem Tamir, Bethany Taylor, Michelle Tillander, Sergio Vega, Amy Vigilante and Ellen Knudson. Media in the exhibition ranges from the traditional to processes that employ digital technology and 3D fabrication. Topics addressed in the works range from environmental issues and contemporary culture to the simple love of forming materials such as gold-leaf, silverpoint or wood into elegant forms.
The purpose of this exhibition is to recognize and applaud UF's art faculty as individual artists and as a collective of exemplary art educators. The exhibition’s title Solo/Together stems from an artist’s need to work alone, to read, think and realize the ideas he/she wants to express through art. Yet, as educators, they work together with colleagues to inspire students toward what is often difficult to communicate — self-discovery, imagination and persistence.
Alone in the studio or together on campus, the current University of Florida studio faculty are joined by a passion for making art that deepens our collective human experience
