Installing El Anatsui’s “Broken Bridge II”
We are in the final stages of installing El Anatsui’s Broken Bridge II, a monumental sculpture hanging from an exterior wall next to the High Line between West 21st and West 22nd Street.
Seen here is High Line Art Production Manager Jordan Benke attaching sections of recycled pressed tin to create a large sheet of metal. After assembling each section on the roof, crews use a hoist to carefully fasten them to a wood and wire mesh frame on the side of the building. When the installation is complete, this HIGH LINE COMMISSION will be the artist’s largest outdoor installation to date, measuring 157 feet wide by 37 feet high.
The installation is scheduled to be completed on Monday, November 19. Stop by the High Line to see the installation and make sure to tag your photos on Twitter and Instagram with #BrokenBridgeII.
