“I like bristle brushes because they give a nice texture to the paint, especially when you apply it thickly, in strokes—it leaves its mark in the quality of the painting. Then there are oil brushes, and you have to treat them differently; and then there are the enamel brushes. We used to color-code them but we still keep them separately—oil, enamel, and acrylic. We try to adhere to the system, but sometimes I’m the worst culprit—I’m the one who usually just sort of grabs an oil brush and uses it with acrylic [laughs].”
