Capturing the interplay of shadow and light, the works display nuance of form as the compositions emerge as organic manifestations on the surface of the panels. Constructed with wavering intensity of colors and patterns that dissolve and merge, the paintings mimic the steady rhythms, small variations, and cyclical forms found in the organic. Collaged undulations are then excavated, exposing the bright white base panel, while re-connecting the layers of paint on top back into the whole of the image. Weaser’s handling of medium enforces a sense of tranquility through a smooth, sanded surface and lyrical suggestions of nature.

Evoking the tradition of Abstract Expressionism, Weaser utilizes the familiar visual reference of the landscape as a vehicle for experimenting with the painting medium, as well as exploring various processes in nature. Bringing to mind Helen Frankenthaler’s statement that “my pictures are full of climates, abstract climates. They’re not nature per se, but a feeling,” Weaser captures her landscapes not in a literal likeness, but rather in its forms, colors, effects, and the subjective experience it conjures.
