This week we give an inside peek at what happens inside (and outside) of the gallery walls during a typical week at JoAnne Artman Gallery. For this particular week we de-installed “Saddle Up” New Works by Billy Schenck, installed “The New Figurative”Featuring America Martin, made a delivery, and drank lots and lots of coffee - here we go!

Day 1: De-Install

Tuesday begins with a rush to clean and prep all outgoing artwork for pickup by shippers. Associate Director Erin Metzdorf is here from Laguna Beach to ensure everything goes smoothly - and it does! We finish everything just in time, patching all of the walls, sanding down any rough areas and then painting over in preparation for the big delivery tomorrow. It’s snowing outside and we have a beautiful view of the gently falling flakes as we finish for the day.

Day 2-3: America Martin Install!

All of the artwork for our current exhibition arrives right on time in the early am, and we begin by unpacking everything as Erin coordinates the shippers, and I work with our intern, Scout. The largest piece in the show is the sculpture Woman Listens to the Wind. This is definitely the biggest piece we’ve had in the space before, and it looks beautiful with the rest of the paintings, really bringing the rest of the work together.

Day 4: Special Delivery

We finish the install today and I head out to hand deliver a purchase by one of our clients in one of the boroughs. It’s a blustery January day, and we make sure to clean, prep and package the piece carefully.

Chelsea, NYC on a sunny winter’s day

Day 5: Hello Weekend!

It’s Saturday and Chelsea is bustling with families, tourists and locals enjoying the sunny weather. The snow and ice have melted resulting in slushy streets - messy but no real obstacle. It’s a beautiful day to have some brunch, see some art, and enjoy the sights and sounds of the city. JoAnne Artman Gallery is open today as usual until 6pm, see you soon!
