When I first came to LA from Melbourne I had massive urban culture shock - the PCH was my savior and my religion. I loved getting on the 10 and making the turn to the beach and having that amazing change in atmosphere from the city to the sea shore. Cathy Opie has laser vision for singling out the essential elements of LA; whether it be her misty surfers, her twisted concrete freeways or her stage set Beverly Hills homes, her images crystalize so much about the LA landscape.
