Krišs Salmanis is a conceptual artist whose works question identity, material properties, and the role of the artist as a creator—all with deceptive simplicity and straightforwardness. Salmanis, however, avoids generalizing about his practice, saying instead that each piece explores a single idea to its fullest. He does admit to a preference for working with moving images and animation; even his installations and sculptures often have a motorized or kinetic component. Salmanis also uses his body as a material or a base in some of his works, which have included tattoos, shapes waxed into his chest hair, and alphabets made from the folds of his fingers. Salmanis also makes films, graphics, and photographs.
