About LIFE
LIFE Magazine is the renowned photographic publication that has chronicled the 20th century through striking images of world events in politics, culture, celebrities, and the arts.
First published in 1883 as a humor and general interest magazine, LIFE was purchased and relaunched by Time Inc. founder Henry Luce in 1936. It soon became the premier photographic news magazine that featured works from some of the 20th century's greatest photojournalists, including Alfred Eisenstaedt, Margaret Bourke-White, Andreas Feininger, and many more.
“LIFE is the quintessential photographic brand,” says Regina Feiler, Director, LIFE Gallery of Photography. "From the iconic VJ Day Kiss in Times Square to chilling images of the JFK assassination, the LIFE photographs comprise a rich visual history of the American experience in the past century."
