On 28 June 2014 MANIFESTA 10 will open to the public and will continue for 120 days before closing on 31 October, 2014. The main exhibition will take place at the Winter Palace and the General Staff Building of the State Hermitage Museum, with various satellite events being held at different locations around the city.

This year marks the 20th anniversary of Manifesta which was initiated in response to the new social, cultural and political reality that emerged in the aftermath of the Cold War. This decade edition of Manifesta will be curated by Kasper König and will be hosted by the State Hermitage Museum, which celebrates its 250th anniversary this year. Various projects and special MANIFESTA 10 public programs will also be presented throughout the city, reaching the broader public through events and encounters with contemporary culture outside of the main MANIFESTA 10 venues, and staging a dialogue between the informal and the official.

The State Hermitage Museum was selected by Manifesta because of its critical intellectual and historical relationship with East and West Europe; a uniting principal that is also central to Manifesta as an itinerant Biennial. MANIFESTA 10 will consider the historical perspective of St. Petersburg’s view on the West, and its extensive relationship with Europe at large. Next to the official MANIFESTA 10 program there is a large series of Parallel Events taking place in St. Petersburg.

We look forward to welcoming you to St. Petersburg for MANIFESTA 10 this summer.
