About the Exhibitor
Maraya Art Centre is a non-profit art space and cultural platform located in the Emirate of Sharjah, in the heart of the United Arab Emirates cultural capital. It is an initiative by the Sharjah Investment and Development Authority (Shurooq), and serves for the purpose of nurturing and promoting emerging artists and creative talents from the Gulf Region and internationally. The centre was officially launched in March 2010, and comprises of a three-story art centre with over 1500 square meters, that includes the Maraya Community which is home to the Maraya Video Archive and also offers a wide range of creative and educational activities, the Maraya Art Gallery, and the Barjeel Art Foundation, which is the private collection of Sultan Sooud Al Qassemi. In 2013, Maraya Art Centre launched the Maraya Art Park, which aims to promote the public art realm in the United Arab Emirates, providing a platform to display public artworks across selected areas in Sharjah through commissioned projects and open calls. The first park was opened at Al Majaz Waterfront in March 2013.
