Nika Sakhanberidze solo exhibition Diptychs, God Sticker 5, 6, 7, 8, 9. Paint God 1
Nika Sakhanberidze’s exhibition Diptychs, God Sticker 5, 6, 7, 8, 9. Paint God 1 was held in the framework of Tbilisi Fashion Week at Project ArtBeat Moving Gallery through 16-19 April, 2015.
Nika Sakhanberidze and the curator of the exhibition Elene Abashidze created a site-specific installation. Lighting objects with stickers, artworks made of acrylic paints and glittering stones were presented in a ruby interior of a dark, narrow container. Space resembling a magic box was created from a ruby carpet and a ruby wall, twinkle lights from a disco ball and music chosen by the artist.
Images like eastern gods and abstract compositions with repeated decorative elements, which were presented at the Project ArtBeat Moving Gallery created a special atmosphere. Although the artist created the artworks specifically for this exhibition, these works with colorful bright surfaces contain elements of artworks of all Sakhaneridze’s different periods and thus unite all the tendencies of the artist’s entire career.
Nika Sakhanberidze has been using the techniques used in the works of the exhibition since the 1990s. He creates compositions with custom-made stickers, acrylic paints and different materials. It has been several years since Sakhanberidze became popular in Georgia with his custom-made hand-cut flower-stickers called “Chutkvavilas”. These stickers spread throughout Tbilisi and have been stuck to everything including mobile devices, cars, walls, and trees for several years. The artist has participated in various exhibitions throughout his career: at the Presidential Palace, Tbilisi, Georgia (2014), at the Center of Contemporary Art, Tbilisi, Georgia (2011), at A. Jain Marunouchi Gallery, New York, US (2006), at The National Gallery, Tbilisi, Georgia (1999) etc.
