Lene Berg applies her training as a filmmaker to her artistic practice, which also includes installation, performance, photography, and text-based work. Berg’s works, which frequently revisit iconic art historical subjects, intersections of visual and military history, and politics, are united in their humor, incisiveness, and provocativeness. For one of her better-known pieces, Berg created a film featuring eight costumed women exchanging personal stories of fulfilling sexual fantasies. She also made a work based on the famous scandal of Pablo Picasso’s 1953 drawing of Joseph Stalin, which took the form of a film, a book, and three large banners hung publicly. Her subjects also include the role of art during times of war, and representations of truth and fantasy.
