Ana Teresa Barboza "Rituals, Cycles, and Knowledge"

Many viewers were just as surprised as we were: the wonderful and saturated colors on the fabrics exhibited in "What Nature Allows" were dyed with all-natural ingredients, including plants, minerals, and insects. No wonder Ana said, "Nature allows us so much."

To keep her art practice environment friendly, and to stay loyal to Peru's bio and cultural diversity, Ana learned from the community all over Peru and makes the nature-dye practice a daily ritual of hers. She builds herself a complex index of plants, experiments with different plant parts, various processes, and even test out the different color brought by the seasonality - the results obtained are inevitably stunning.
