In 1980, Marvin Torrfield's Volume evoked a blizzard to make up for that year's seemingly missing winter. The artist sculpted three rectangular block of polystrene, a material better known for its use in beverage cups. Conceived as a winter sculpture, Volume was inspired by Torffield’s memory of a 1926 silent film in which huge blocks of ice were cut and hauled out of the St. Lawrence River.
