Sharing Public Art Fund's staff member's beloved exhibitions from our archives:

David Hammons, Higher Goals, 1986-1987

Being raised in Birmingham, AL, in the heart of the Civil Rights Movement, I grew up as part of a culture that was, and in many ways still is, trying to understand itself and its history within today’s society.  David Hammons’ work is rooted in issues of race, civil rights, and African American culture, and is, in part, a reflection on the shared struggles of equality within our country. Higher Goals allows the viewer to reflect both on the U.S.’s African roots and the almost unattainable “American Dream”.
