Sharing our staff's most beloved exhibitions from the archives in honor of Valentine's Day:
Tony Oursler, The Influence Machine, 2000
Stumbling across Tony Oursler's Public Art Fund project in and around Madison Square Park was one of my most formative cultural experiences as a teenage New Yorker. Tony's installation transformed a part of the city that I had always avoided, luring me back again and again to witness the metamorphosis of a derelict park into a surreal and immersive dreamscape. The Influence Machine exposed me to a kind of art that I never knew existed and opened my eyes to possibilities for art in public space that I would have never imagined. Years later, I'm honored to play a part in realizing incredible works with Public Art Fund and hope they inspire similar revelations for a new generation of New Yorkers.
