Sharing our staff's most beloved exhibitions from our archives in honor of Valentine's Day:

Richard Deon, Hike New York-Long Island City, 1995

Many of these signs are still visible in Long Island City, Queens. Being a native of the borough, I had seen these countless times not even realizing they were public art—they always seemed to naturally be part of the environment. Of course, I was thrilled when I came to find it was a Public Art Fund project. Queens is a mystery to so many New York City visitors and residents alike, it’s only appropriate that signage usually associated with rural surroundings be found in the outer borough. Richard Deon’s signs give a new meaning to “urban jungle.”
