RU's Annual Residency Raffle -Artists can win a residency in Wales!
Mission Gallery, Swansea, Wales, UK, in partnership with The Jane Phillips Award, Elysium Gallery Swansea and Residency Unlimited, New York, are pleased to announce a fully funded month long residency opportunity in either October 2015 OR February 2016.
THIS RAFFLE OPPORTUNITY IS OPEN TO ARTISTS AND ARTISTS’ SUPPORTERS WHO ARE INVITED TO NOMINATE ONE OR SEVERAL ARTISTS OF THEIR CHOICE.

Entries close at midnight on July 7, 2015. The ticket draw will take place during RU’s FUNDRAISER 2015 on July 8th.
CONDITIONS OF ELIGIBILITY
The artist entering the raffle is a practicing visual artist (of all
disciplines) with a website or portfolio URL showing at least 3 years of
professional practice. Cross-disciplinary practices are also
encouraged.
If you are recommending an artist, please indicate the name and URL or website of your nominated artist/s.
PROGRAM DESCRIPTION & BENEFITS
RU will cover the airfare cost to Swansea and return from wherever the
winning artist is located as well as accommodation expenses on site. In
Swansea, the hosting organization Mission Gallery will provide the artist with a working studio at Elysium Gallery Studio;
access to the library, technical equipment and materials at the City
Art College; mentoring sessions, critical feedback and portfolio reviews
with introductions to local curators, artists and regional partner
venues; a public program where the winning artist will be invited to
present his/her practice to representatives of Wales’ vibrant
contemporary art scene.
Throughout the residency, the winning artist will be invited to provide feedback to Mission Gallery, Jane Phillips Award and Elysium Gallery’s on their respective blogs. In addition, the artist will present the outcome of is/her residency in Elysium Gallery’s “Is This/This Is” project space.
Mission Gallery’s aim is to support artists that can offer a unique and thought provoking perspective/opinion on Swansea; reflecting on its past, present, politics, architecture and society. Swansea has two Museums, a Museum Collection Centre, and a City Library/Archive. The winning artist will be encouraged to make use of these resources and explore the fantastic heritage, industrial and social history of Swansea and its surrounding rural areas. Swansea’s vibrant arts scene includes 60 artist’s studios spread over buildings across the city, plus many small galleries, collectives and grass roots initiatives. Mission Gallery will also arrange visits to other locations such as Cardiff, Wale’s Capital City.

Mission Gallery
is one of Wales’ best adapted spaces for the contemporary arts that has
developed a reputation for residencies, dynamic and distinctive
programming, to present excellence across the visual arts, applied arts
and craft, from across Wales and beyond. Housed in a landmark church
building built in 1868 by Benjamin Bucknall (St Nicholas Church, a
non-denominational Seaman’s Mission, Mission Gallery began its existence
in 1977 as a voluntary artist run – artist led body.
