Incidental Inspiration
Sasha Levine
Two summers ago, I took the photograph of the woman in the green (above) while enjoying the sunshine in the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens. Completely uninspired by any referent or visual cue, it was purely a moment I wanted to capture for the loveliness it would recall.
After years as the background for my iPhone, only recently did I learn of this untitled William Eggleston work from 1975, displaying a similarly dressed red head in a floral dress basking on a similarly sunny lawn.
Now, it's hard not to see both when I glance at my phone.
You never know when life will imitate art... Or is it the other way around?
