Seeing some of the new work by Cai Guo-Qiang, I recall his 2008 takeover of the Guggenheim Museum as one of the best exhibitions I've ever seen in a space that can be tricky for viewing art. Yet Cai's work, without being site-specifically made, was a wonderful fit. Many of his drawings and paintings are distantly descended from scroll paintings, and are expansively horizontal—perfect in that narrow ribbon of a gallery space.
