This beautifully curated group photography show at Sonce Alexander Gallery showcases the work of six artists, each with a unique take on the medium. The exhibition focuses on the appreciation of a sculptural form and the detailed analysis that a photographic frame can provide.  The transformation from 3-dimensional form to 2D print provides a singular, personal take on the subject.  The opportunity to revisit scale, angles, shadow and light, and perspective is baked into one shutter-click through the eye of the photographer.

The exhibition includes:

UK master of black and white portraiture, Gemma Levine. Mentored by renowned modernist sculptor Henry Moore, Levine’s recorded observations of Moore’s sculptures from 1978 align with the contemporary practices of her counterparts in the show.

John Chiara offers part photography part sculpture and part event in his take on “Arrive and Likewise Depart”. Chiara’s process is fascinating. He creates one-of-a-kind photographs in a variety of hand-built cameras. His manipulation of the photographic process by hand provides a live performance aspect as well as the final photo print result.  How this will be represented in the show is not yet apparent, but I am eager to find out.

Material Conjectures is a co-authored performance piece by curator Kirsten Cooke and Artist Dr Dale Holmes.  Projected images are screened onto a temporary constructed stage while an actor reads out a poem.  The performance will take place on opening night.

Kevin Cooley, Victoria Jenkins and Colin Patrick Smith round out the show.. and I’m not going to give it all away.  There is so much richness to take in.  You’ll just have to see it yourself.
