After being diagnosed with cancer and undergoing intensive surgery at the age of 72, Matisse moved away from painting and began working on his cut-outs in earnest, such as the Fondation Beyeler-held Acanthes. For the past three years, the museum's conservation team has been at work restoring this beautiful piece, and created a site intended to showcase the restoration process to curious viewers.
