Famous as the Queen
Sotheby's
Caked in diamond dust, Andy Warhol’s ‘Reigning Queens’ series shines bright.
Ever the master of mass production, Warhol took to the image of Queen Elizabeth II (top) on the occasion of her Silver Jubilee, duplicating the royal figure four times. He brings life to Queen Margrethe II of Denmark (bottom) using a unique combination of colors. The series also includes Queen Ntombi of Swaziland and Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands – all women who ruled in their own right.
