Resonating Light

Zao Wou-Ki’s 10.12.59 is a classic transitional work by the artist. Here, he creates an open and infinite universe where we can breathe and roam. Minimal colour, subtle variations of light and brushstrokes of changing width flow lyrically through the canvas, as lines and planes interact to catch the echoes and resonance of music from around the world. Cobalt blue intertwines with crisp white, reverberating in a battle of light and dark; the white beam in the centre glows mysteriously in the blue sky, conjuring an image of the first dawn at the origin of the universe.
