At this year’s Hong Kong edition of the Affordable Art Fair, 18 - 20 May, Stand C01, Tanya Baxter Contemporary will be showcasing a diverse variety of art that is both affordable and discerning.

The ethos behind our collection for the Affordable Art Fair is to provide discerning art for everyone while at the same time showcasing artists that are on an international platform but are still accessible in price. We feature a group of established international mid-career artists with whom we have worked for up to twenty years and who have developed a diverse collector base around the world, both corporate and private. These artists include Richard Allen, Russell Young, Pip Todd-Warmoth, Rhed Ritchie, Jean Philippe Duboscq, Benjamin Warner, Katarina Monnier, NICKO, Cissy Cook, Liu Fenghua, Min Wae Aung, Paul Hughes, Marie-Pierre Weinhold and Simon Allen amongst others.

We will also be exhibiting a selection of limited edition prints from artists such as Banksy, Tracey Emin, Andy Gotts and Sir Peter Blake. Limited editions are an easier way for collectors to acquire a piece of art from a blue chip artist, and have become a very attractive and profitable market. In recent years several major museums and galleries have held shows dedicated to limited edition prints that have brought awareness to the importance of printmaking in an artist’s development.

Contemporary art has become the primary driver of the global art market. Buyers are more confident and quicker to buy than ever before, and drastic growth has made contemporary art a safe and exciting market. With recent economic uncertainties, however, it is even more important to provide and support art at a more affordable level. This also provides a more accessible market, allowing more people to become first time collectors and to support artists at many different levels.

Starting an art collection is more affordable than you think. You don’t have to buy at auction houses or from brand name galleries, the reason we participate in art fairs globally is to platform our mid career artists and develop a market for them internationally. You can develop a good relationship with the galleries thereafter and seek help when researching, buying, hanging and selling. The ultimate goal is to enjoy the art you buy, take an informed approach and learn from taking steps slowly at each fair you attend. Over time your choice of work gradually becomes more market driven, historically significant and influenced by financial gain. At this level of the affordable you can acquire accomplished works by internationally renowned artists and enjoy!
