At this year’s Fine Art & Antiques Fair Olympia Tanya Baxter Contemporary will feature a collection of Modern & Contemporary British Masters including John Hoyland, Frank Auerbach, Sean Scully and David Hockney along with several limited edition prints by Francis Bacon, Bridget Riley, Tracey Emin and Damien Hirst. With prices for art at an all time high, it has never been a more popular investment. Records continue to be set at auction houses in 2018, including a new record for a David Hockney painting when Pacific Coast Highway and Santa Monica was bought for $28.5 million at the beginning of May. Stronger growth overall is fuelling the art market to dizzying heights.

Modern British Art sits in the 20th century category alongside impressionist and postwar. The upturn an increased interest in British artists such as Hepworth, Riley, Auerbach, and Moore and lately of Hoyland, Heath and Davie is widespread; there is a sudden appeal of these artists to audiences both in the United States and Asia. Bridget Riley and Frank Auerbach are both in their late 80s and the demand for their work follows similar trends to that of Freud and Hockney, who are already hugely popular in America. Riley’s collector base is largely British and American but she continues to attract a growing number of European and Asian collectors thanks to her major 2008 retrospective at the Musée d’Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris. Her surge in popularity has also impacted her price; she recently set a new record at auction with the sale of Diagonal Curve which sold for £4.3 million at Christies London in 2016.

Tanya Baxter Contemporary, with locations in London and Hong Kong, exhibits some of the most exciting contemporary, blue chip art. Our art advisory works at the top end of the market, providing advice to private and corporate collectors. Our clients are offered investment opportunities in blue-chip art as well as discerning acquisitions amongst up and coming international artists. From inception to the final step of installation, we help our clients make intelligent decisions that add to the long term value and integrity of their collection.

The Fine Art & Antiques Fair Olympia is an extremely reputable and long established art fair, in its 46th year this summer. It showcases many of the most famous antiques and 20th century art dealers and unlike its counterpart ‘raz ma taz’ fairs it offers accessible prices as well as a longstanding reputation within the art and antiques association (LAPADA, BADA, etc.). Collectors know they will pay a fair price for rare works. The modern and contemporary art is equally alluring with big blue chip artists such as David Hockney, Andy Warhol, and Bridget Riley. The reality is that collectors are savvy about prices and transparency and champagne after parties and a red carpet no longer justify inflated prices. You can save your money and acquire great works of art and antiques for better prices.
