When Two Become One

RHED – Here and Now, a solo exhibition of recent works by the emerging artist RHED, curated by Tanya Baxter will run from Friday 13th until Saturday 28th July at Tanya Baxter Contemporary, 436 Kings Road, Chelsea, London SW10 0LJ. His works have already sold from both Singapore Art Stage and Asia Fine Art Fair.

RHED is a young emerging artist, whose cultural background is diverse and unconventional. His work draws on a childhood spent between New York and London being exposed to eclectic and diverse artistic works and experiences.

Now based in London and attending Central St Martins, he has embraced a new genre of bricolage art with expressionist verve and street energy. It is no surprise that he first dabbled as a graffiti artist and his work certainly has hints of Basquiat and Banksy. His pieces are unique and brilliantly chaotic with a playful and performative aspect.

Society conflicts such as the obsession with social media, cult of celebrity and fixation on designer labels are worked out in his pieces. Generational problems of drug abuse and depression are subjects that he approaches in a coded fashion; seemingly the artist uses his work as a pressure value for his peer group. The millennial generation who have overdosed on a toxic society.  Lifting the foreboding subjects with his bold and dominating use of colour, the texture in his paintings is deliberately forceful and layered, evolving organically.
