Zhao Kailin - Memories
Zhao Kailin's stunning 'Memories' on view in London gallery now.
Born in Anhui China, Zhao Kailin is a master of the contemporary realist oil painting movement. His thoughtful paintings of women in traditional chinese garments draw from the Western tradition of portraiture and composition and also on Chinese culture. Their direct gaze connects powerfully with the viewer.
Zhao knew from a young age that he wanted to be an artist. Zhao relates that 'it was my second grade teacher in elementary school who taught me basic painting skills and encouraged and challenged me. Most important she taught me how to soar with imaginary wings through the secret world of art.' Zhao studied at the Central Art Academy in Beijing where he was exposed to the works of the Dutch masters. Here he was inspired by the work of Rembrandt and Caravaggio.
Zhao currently lives and works in California, where he is a member of the Portrait Society of America. His work has been shown in numerous solo and group exhibitions throughout Asia, Europe and the United States and is part of notable public and private art collections. He has won multiple awards for his work and continues to produce stunning paintings that capture personal stories and memories and portray the inherent beauty of Chinese culture and life.
