THE SALON: ART + DESIGN RETURNS TO THE PARK AVENUE ARMORY NOVEMBER 14-18
In
November 2012, The Salon: Art + Design premiered to rave reviews. Sanford Smith, the eminent New York fair organizer, created
the Salon in conjunction with the Syndicat National des Antiquaires, Europe’s
most prestigious dealer association.
Last year’s Salon was enthusiastically received, The New York Times
calling it, “a museum in the making at the Park Avenue Armory.”
The
Salon hosts an eclectic mix of art, design and decorative art objects from 53
exhibitors in 7 countries. Material includes modern and contemporary furniture,
lighting and decorative arts from modern master designers and architects side
by side with work from intriguing designers on the rise. Similarly, the most important artists from
the late nineteenth and twentieth centuries are joined by some of
today’s most innovative young artists. Adding interest to the mix is the
presence of three world-renowned ethnographic galleries from Paris.
The
appeal of the Salon lies in the eclectic mix of work and elegantly curated
booths, many of which have been created by well-known designers. Its resounding is also attributed to the
addition of the SNA members, many of whom had never exhibited in the United States.
