Colin Tunstall & Curtis Kulig - 99 Percent Perspiration
Colin Tunstall is the Creative Director and co-founder of Saturdays Surf NYC, the downtown clothing and surf boutique which also happens to serve great espresso. With their backyard patio, the shop has become a hangout for folks to linger, network, plot new projects, and talk shop about the surf in nearby Rockaway, Long Beach, and North Jersey. With another NYC location just opened and also one in Tokyo, Saturdays is on the up-and-up, especially after being nominated by GQ Magazine as one of the “Best New Menswear Designers.” For The Avant/Garde Diaries, Colin introduces us to Curtis Kulig. The artist is probably most recognized as the man behind “Love Me,” a graffiti tag, sticker, and emotional imperative now found posted around cities worldwide. “He’s taken this one saying, ‘Love Me,’ and he’s made it into a brand through hard work,” Colin says. “It’s literally all over the city, which takes time and effort.” We met Colin at Saturdays’ TriBeCa office and showroom, stopping by his shop for a coffee, before meeting up with Curtis to check out his Chinatown studio.
