"An Alternate Vision" at Morris Museum

Founded in 1889, the National Association of Women Artists (N.A.W.A.) celebrates its 125th Anniversary in 2014. 

The first established professional women's art organization in the United States, N.A.W.A.'s original and continuing purpose is to empower and help women artists counter the difficulties they face in gaining recognition and equity in professional training, exhibition opportunities, and the marketplace. Over the years, many famous artists became members and supporters of this organization. "An Alternate Vision..." will showcase works produced by over 45 artists with work produced primarily within the last ten years. 

The exhibition will also include a historical component, with a painting by one of N.A.W.A.'s original co-founders, Edith Mitchill Prellwitz, (1864-1944), as well as representative examples by Abastenia St. Leger Eberle (1878-1942), Virginia Snedeker (1901-2000), and Malvina Hoffman (1887- 1966). This exhibition celebrates the artists, their works, and this momentous anniversary in the history of the N.A.W.A.
