The National Association of Women Artists Inc., an inclusive women’s art organization, celebrated its 125th Anniversary during Women’s History Month with the exhibition, “Visions of the Mind.” Personified by a diverse and ever-evolving group of Contemporary artists, N.A.W.A. has paved the way for women artists for over a century. For “Visions of the Mind”, the airy and spacious galleries at HUB-Robeson provided a visual platform for the unique female perspective seen through painting, drawing, printmaking, photographic and sculpture media.
A reception was held on April 11th at HUB-Robeson Galleries. Five exhibiting artists received "Visions of the Mind" awards, with Dorotha G. Lemeh receiving First Prize for her Mixed Media work, "It Came in Waves".
In addition to the exhibition, a three-part presentation was given in the Freeman Auditorium on April 12th, also at the HUB-Robeson Center. This presentation included:
• A short background of “The National Association of Women Artists over the Past 125 Years” delivered by Susan G. Hammond, Executive Director of N.A.W.A.
• A video of N.A.W.A.’s Annual Exhibition in 2013, moderated by Marie Hines Cowan, Exhibition Committee Chair.
• A Power Point presentation shown by Mildred Kaye, featuring the works of 14 prominent women artists in the roster of N.A.W.A.’s honorary Vice Presidents: Pat Adams, Judy Brodsky, Judy Chicago, Ann Chwatsky, Miriam Russo Enders, Marisol, Mary Ellen Mark, Ferris Olin, Faith Ringgold, Clare Romano, Dorothea Rockburn, Cornelia Seckel, Rhoda Sherbell, and Kay Walkingstick.
