This past week, a professor of mine made a passing remark connecting Philip Guston to Merleau-Ponty's ideas of the phenomenon of interstitial ambiguity and Gestalt materialization. 

As though I'd known his point as he was formulating it, I laughed in that knowledgeable kind of way, meant to signal my acceptance and embrace of a code of intellectualism that I'd like to suspect was closed to all but the informed.  

I don't actually know what he was talking about; I'm really just hoping for an A-minus.
