Beyond Liaisons
Beyond Liaisons
5 September - 27 October 2013
The World Jewellery Museum presents Beyond Liaisons, the first major exhibition in Asia to explore the visual dialogue between art jewellery created by well-established international living artists and traditional jewellery from various cultures around the world.
By bringing together ethnography and contemporary art, this exhibition honors the extraordinary creativity on either side and provides insight into the multi-layered nature of jewellery. Through the fourteen "matchmaking" encounters, the exhibition offers many different viewpoints about the concept of jewellery, exploring both similarities and differences that exist in the two worlds. The structure of the exhibition is designed to suggest to the viewers that there is much to question and to ponder, especially about those meeting points where eye-opening discoveries are made.
Beyond Liaisons presents a valuable opportunity for art lovers and jewellery lovers around the world to immerse themselves in the exceptional world of art jewellery. The contemporary artists featured in the exhibition include Jannis Kounellis (Greece), Ilya and Emilia Kabakov (Russia), Rebecca Horn (Germany), Wim Delvoye (Belgium), Tom Sachs (USA), Giuseppe Penone (Italy), Atelier van Lieshout (The Netherlands), Svatopluk Kasaly (Czech Republic), Kendell Geers (South Africa), and Giorgio Vigna (Italy). The exhibition also presents 80 jewellery pieces from the museum.
This exhibition has been organized by the World Jewellery Museum with Elisabetta Cipriani Jewellery by Contemporary Artists, London.
Beyond Liaisons is curated by Elaine Kim, Deputy Director of the World Jewellery Museum.
