Korea DNA

3 October – 9 October 2011

Korea DNA presented by the World Jewellery Museum at Designblok 2011 in Prague, seeks to open a dialogue and an investigation on the subject of cultural identity and representation.

The 25 artworks by 8 Korean artists explore and express the creative tensions between the past, present and future through their individual work processes and materials.

The artists ask thought-provoking questions about the possibilities of how art and tradition evolve in response to contemporary social concerns and issues. Director of the museum, Lee Kang-won saids, “These makers investigate their roles as artists by opening up the cultural icons of Korea’s heritage and make them relevant to our time. Their dynamic works are shaping and redefining Korea’s visual aesthetics and cultural identity. ”

Korea DNA is a part of a series of international exhibitions that the museum has been organizing since 2010, which includes Lovers from Prague: Czech Jewellery.

The 8 participating artists are: Jang Jin, Kim You-sun, Choi Won-jung, Lim Hyo-jung, Yoon Bo-hyun, Yoon Jeong-won, Yun Sang-hee and Lee Il-jung.
