About "Receding shoreline, Dead Sea"
I have a lingering passion for making visible the geological forces that shape the earth. In this image you are seeing the Dead Sea from the cliffs above, in a basin formed by the divergence of the Jordan Rift Valley. The sources of the water in the Dead Sea are being diverted or drying up, and this causes the shoreline to recede and the land exposed to collapse in sink-holes - a geological process in action. White salt outlines the changing contours of the shore and the water reflects the sky - so that it becomes difficult to discern clearly where the earth ends and the sky begins.
The rich print has an exquisitely toned color that adds to the feeling of depth created by the black asphalt road at the bottom edge. Ansel Adams, with whom I studied, made Special Edition prints in 8" x 10" size at very special prices to make his work accessible. I do this from time with images that I like and offer the first four prints in a new edition at half price. When those are sold, the price will go up.
