The power of small prints

This image was made with a large format camera from which I could easily make prints 5 feet wide with no loss of resolution; but after spending years living with Ansel Adams' 8x10 contact prints, I have come to realize the extraordinary power of small prints. They provide an intimate experience which cannot be matched - and have the power to project their presence even in a large room. So, alongside the larger prints which have become so common now, I wanted to reintroduce a format which is largely forgotten and at a reasonable price. That's what photography has always done so well.
