I believe Florence Kent used the name Kent prior to meeting and marrying Paul Hunter, who was a chemist (later a physician) who admired but had no direct involvement in her artistry (other than framing some of her work).  More likely, she chose the name Kent to obfuscate her Jewish heritage to facilitate obtaining work as a commercial illustrator of children's books, and perhaps to preserve artistic autonomy from her prior husband, the well-known American artist Herzl Emanuel.  Florence's maiden name was Goldman.
