The Getaway, as with many of Carol O’Malia’s paintings, captures a moment of summer. The viewer is in the water quietly approaching the float where the unnamed swimmer has just come to rest. The water is cool and calm.

Be it a folding chair, a beach ball floating on the lake, or a young man resting on a float, viewers encountering Carol O’Malia’s paintings can almost hear the lapping of the water, the sounds of children playing in the distance, and low hum of motorboats.
