The book, the first catalogue ever published on the works of this young American artist, has been conceived as a hand-crafted photographic album, whose paging dictates the rhythm of the seemingly serial images, by emphasising its peculiar painting monochrome.
Kassay, with his background in photography, has transposed many photographic techniques in his painting practice. The chemical process of silver-plating may recall the old-time photographic process of silver salts on gelatine: both techniques produce a transmutation whereby light becomes the central element for the chemical reaction on the support, and for the perception of the work itself.
