“Josep Navarro Vives (1931) is one of our great living painters with a long track record of international success who is still active today. Having followed his work for many years, I can attest that his profound knowledge of pictorial techniques, his inexhaustible capacity for hard work and investigative drive and, above all, his creativity and sensibility have allowed him to develop a unique style and forge an extensive career. Six decades of his artwork's presence round the world, primarily in Europe, the United States and Mexico, make him a worthy recipient of this distinction" (Daniel Giralt-Miracle)
The Creu de Sant Jordi is one of the highest civil distinctions a person can receive from the Government of Catalonia.
It was created in 1981 as an award to acknowledge the merits of individuals or organisations that have provided outstanding services in Catalonia in the civic and cultural arena.
