Raquel Paiewonsky, is originally from Puerto Plata, but currently lives and works in Santo Domingo. In 1991, she graduated from the School of Design Altos de Chavon in La Roman. Her first solo exhibition was in 1992 at the Art Nouveau Gallery.  

Paiewonsky continued her studies at Parsons The New School for Design in New York, where she lived andwork ed for the next 10 years. 

Through the years, Raquel has explored painting, sculpture, installation and photography, often combining more than one of these means.  

Paiewonsky has participated in exhibitions at international fairs and museums such as: The Brooklyn Museum,  Museum Bochum, Germany, MAM Dominican in Puerto Rico, UNESCO, Paris, France and 'Arteaméricas' Miami Beach.

Paiewonsky has received numerous grants and awards such as: 'Grand Prix competition Eduardo Leon Jimenez' 2006/08. Installation Award XXII Biennial of Visual Arts 2003, Santo Domingo. Installation IXX Achievement National Visual Arts Biennial 1996, Santo Domingo. Scholarship to study at the Parson School of Design, New York (1990/91/93). Bluhdorn Award 1991-1993. 

Paiewonsky's works are in collections such as the Centro León in Santiago. The RISD Museum, Rhode Island. Daros-Latinamerica AG, Zurich, Switzerland. Dominican Museum of Modern Art, and the Museum of Latin American Art , Long Beach, California.
