Poolside Gossip
Poolside Gossip is Slim Aarons’s iconic 1970 photograph of California society women enjoying a leisurely day by the pool. In the foreground, two women are locked in conversation by a sparkling turquoise swimming pool, cocktails in hand, overlooking a few leggy friends and the idyllic purple mountains of Palm Springs. The snapshot has become an instantly recognizable motif—an emblem of modern, monied American culture in the ’70s. The photograph is available in several printed-to-order sizes in an edition of 150, but it can also be found as non-editioned posters and prints issued by the artist’s estate. In 2015, the photograph made waves in the news when two of the women featured in the original shot sat to recreate the iconic image—45 years later.
