Figurative painting can describe or invent.
It is a frontal perspective that focuses on a multitude of fissures.
To paint offers the adventure of detail, similar to the research of memory.
The action of painting is connected to the recollection of emotions and this act of remembering builds or degrades the frame.
Abel Tournissoux reconstructs memories of photographs or lived scenes. He modifies the framing, or even the history within the image.
Memory is his own interpretation tool. It transforms sources, constantly alternating between reality and fiction.
Reflection on the evolution of the memory of an image relates to the act of painting. The process as a whole, is an inexhaustible source of inspiration.
It is the act of painting itself that motivates the next canvas in a creative mecanism where gesture, pattern and memory of the act of painting is the source of continuity in Abel’s work.
A «strange today» questions the spaces, poses and actions in the scenes. The power of the pictorial gesture amplifies the viewer’s feelings through the dynamic colours and curation. We are captured in this tension between a warm intimacy and an akward voyeurism . Protagonists seems familiar. We take part in the action, without really knowing the objective.
The composition and curation leads the eye from one painting to another, in intersubjective relationships guiding us to new answers. The art of painting by questioning intuitive spaces throws light off all its history by embodying the prospect of a renewal of figurative painting.
